Special election set to replace Terry Witkowski in Milwaukee's 13th Aldermanic District



MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee Common Council President Ashanti Hamilton ordered a special election to replace Alderman Terry Witkowski who retired on Thursday, May 30. Witkowski was the alderman for Milwaukee's 13th District on the city's far south side.

Nomination papers were able to be circulated as of Thursday -- due at the Milwaukee Election Commission by the close of business on Tuesday, June 18. A minimum of 200 and maximum of 400 verified district resident signatures must be turned in in order for a candidate’s name to appear on the ballot. Candidates running for office must also register with the Election Commission prior to raising or spending campaign funds.

A primary will be held on Tuesday, July 16. Milwaukee's City Clerk Jim Owczarski tweeted the final election -- if necessary -- will be held on Tuesday, August 13.

The election winner will serve the remainder of the unexpired term that will expire on April 20, 2020.
