Pickup hits Amish horse-drawn carriage, killing 3 kids

ALGANSEE TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Three children died after a truck rear-ended an Amish horse drawn carriage.

Michigan State Police said it happened on Kelly Road, south of Lester Road, in Algansee Township in Branch County sometime Friday, June 7.

All occupants were ejected from the carriage, including children and two adults. Two of those children, ages 6 and 2, died at the scene. Michigan State Police said a 4-year old later died at the hospital from their injuries.

A 3-year-old was taken to the hospital suffering from major injuries. One of the adults, a woman, also suffered serious injuries.

All of the victims were taken to Parkview Hospital in Ft. Wayne, Indiana and Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

The driver of the pickup was arrested.

The investigation was ongoing.
