'It's just sad:' 60-year-old woman caught in crossfire, dies after being shot near 27th and Kilbourn



MILWAUKEE -- Caught in the crossfire, a 60-year-old woman is dead after a double shooting near 27th and Kilbourn Wednesday night, Aug. 7. Surveillance captured the moments shots were fired and a peek at the people possibly involved.

"Just a beef that escalated," said a person who lives in the area.

The surveillance shows a heated exchange between three men and people inside a vehicle around 9:15 p.m.

Police say both groups opened fire. Several flashes can be seen in the video which appear to be bullets flying.

"I heard six shots," said Jordan Reis Jr., lives nearby.

The three men are seen running away. One appears to be holding something in his hand which he tucks into his shorts.

The group got away leaving innocent bystanders hurt. A 60-year-old woman, identified by police as Migdalia Castro, was fatally shot -- and a 58-year-old man suffered a serious gunshot wound.

"It's just sad," said a person who lives in the area.

Folks living near the area are tired of all the violence.

"It's always a kind of one percent of people that make 99 percent of the people feel unsafe," said a person who lives in the area.

"It's that same group of people, that same type of negative behavior that led to what happened," said Reis Jr.

Jordan Reis Jr. is desperate to see a change with the criminal element in the community.

"The majority of them need to take a reality check and look at their lives," Reis Jr. said. "Doing the wrong thing, living the wrong life."



Meanwhile, those living in the area try to continue to live their lives in the safest way possible.

"I try to be mindful of my surroundings. You can never be too careful, you never know," said a person who lives in the area.

One subject has been taken into custody. It does not appear that either of the victims were involved in the argument.

The investigation is ongoing.
