MADISON — A shooting on the Beltline in Madison delayed the morning commute on Friday, Aug. 16.

Officials say around 8 a.m., multiple witnesses reported seeing someone inside a dark-colored SUV firing at a white sedan on the West Beltline Highway during rush hour. A news release says detectives believe shots were exchanged between someone inside a car and a “gunman who was standing inside the (SUV) and firing from its sunroof.”

The SUV reportedly left the Beltline at Rimrock Road. Officials say the white sedan continued towards Midvale Boulevard.

Law enforcement officers near Rimrock Rd. took time to look for shell casings. There were no reports of injuries.

Both vehicles in this incident have been located. They were unoccupied.

Detectives are asking anyone who witnessed the shots being fired to call Madison Area Crime Stoppers at 608-266-6014.
