Demetrius Pugh sentenced to 36 years in prison for killing Jerry Davis Jr. in Nov. 2013

MILWAUKEE -- Demetrius Pugh, the man convicted of killing Jerry Davis Jr. in Nov. 2013, was sentenced in Milwaukee County court on Friday, Aug. 23 to 36 years in prison and another 15 years of extended supervision.

Davis Jr., 19, was shot and killed on Nov. 2, 2013 near 50th and Hampton in Milwaukee. Months, years passed -- and there was no sign of Pugh. Davis' mother even spent her own money to have 15 billboards put up around Milwaukee -- seeking information on the case.

Then in fall 2018, an informant came forward and helped Milwaukee police crack the case. Pugh was arrested.

Pugh was convicted in June after an extensive six-day trial. Jurors found him guilty on one count of first degree reckless homicide, as party to a crime, use of a dangerous weapon, and one count of armed robbery, as party to a crime.

It was an emotional day in court for both sides involved. The mother of the 19-year-old victim spoke to the court sharing the pain she continues to endure as she still mourns for her child. She recounted the impact it has not only on her, but the victim's young daughter. She said Pugh gloated about the crime -- and even showed up to his funeral, disrupting it.

"The murder of my son was deliberate, sadistic and premeditated . I will never hear Jerry say happy birthday mom," said Gena Clark-McKnight, Jerry's mother.

"To speak of his death is troubling, hard to cope with...young man I was fond with, hope and pray the real culprit is caught. I am an innocent man," Pugh told the court.

The judge disagreed -- and referenced witness statements as well as mentioned Pugh's character and lengthy criminal history before making his sentencing decision.
