Most of Quintero's family was asleep. His daughter was at work.

"I saw that my mom texted me and was like, 'Look how we're hanging out tonight,'" said Odallis Quintero, Gerardo Quintero's daughter. "Finally got a moment to sit down at work, and looked at my phone, and see lots of police lights in the pictures. That's when I was like, 'What in the world?!'"

Police said an officer observed a vehicle fail to stop at a four-way stop at Madison and Moreland around 1:15 a.m. The officer tried to stop the vehicle, and it fled.

After the crash, the driver was uninjured, and arrested on the following charges:

Police said he was on probation, released from prison less than three weeks before this incident. He was taken to the Waukesha County Jail.

"The one night I'm not home, and all of this crazy stuff happens," said Odallis Quintero. "My grandma actually sleeps downstairs because she can't really go up the stairs, so it's a really good thing she is on the opposite side of the wall. That was our main worry, because she's downstairs."
