'So many bullets:' Cameras rolled as people ducked for cover amid double shooting at gas station

MILWAUKEE -- Surveillance cameras captured the moment gunfire erupted outside a gas station near 14th and Locust around 4:15 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11. An 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl were hurt. Others ducked for cover. As of Wednesday night, no arrests had been made.

Jasjeet Singh, the owner of the gas station, said he wasn't surprised to see this violence in Milwaukee, but he was surprised that it happened where it did.

Singh said over the past 20 years, problems have been few and far between at his gas station, but on Wednesday morning, the gun violence he said has plagued other parts of the city happened at his business.

"This is happening all over," said Singh.

His surveillance cameras captured the shooting, which was over as quickly as it began.

The video showed a man in a white shirt walked up to a vehicle and started talking to someone in the back seat. Soon, the video showed at least 14 muzzle flashes, from at least two shooters. The man in the white shirt hit the ground for cover. One second later, a bullet blew out the window of the vehicle, coming inches from the man's head.

One of Singh's employees was inside.

"He heard the shot," said Singh. "A lot of people running inside. Once he called 911, he laid down there, too. Scared, you know?"

Two people who ran into the store later ran out. They got back into the vehicle and drove off.

Police said an 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl were shot. Police said they suffered injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

"They found so many bullets from the lot," said Singh. "They damaged my property, too."

Left to fix the damage done, Singh said he was hopeful this wouldn't happen again.

"The police will find out the problem," said Singh. "They will find out what was going on."
