Police: 44-year-old man shot, killed following argument outside store near 44th and Center

MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee County medical examiner and Milwaukee police were called out to a fatal shooting involving a 44-year-old man near 44th and Center Wednesday, Sept. 18.

It happened around 1 p.m. Neighbors reported hearing at least 10 shots fired in quick succession.

According to police, the victim died at the scene, and an arrest was made.

Police said the shooting was the result of an argument that occurred outside a corner store between two men.

Surveillance video was being reviewed by investigators, who said it appeared to show the victim may have fired first.

FOX6 News was told a few people were being questioned by investigators.

The shooting happened feet from a day care.

"You know, there's a lot of kids in this area," said Greg Madison, witness. "I think there's more kids in this area than any other area, so it's just a sad thing for them to see."

Many children getting out of school in the neighborhood said they heard the gunfire as well.

An autopsy was scheduled for Thursday.
