'Nothing is safe:' Police seek villain who damaged Spider-Man statue in Muskego

MUSKEGO -- Muskego police on Sunday, Sept. 22 asked for help identifying and locating a villain or villains who damaged a Spider-Man statue at a residence on Haven Drive.

Police said the vandal(s) damaged the seven-foot statue and cast parts of it throughout the neighborhood on Sunday morning.

"From the waist back, it was laying in a ditch," said Lee Schmeling, neighbor. "I saw the bottom half of Spider-Man sticking out of the cul de sac over, there out of that drain pipe."

Officials said in a witty Facebook post that, "The head was not left on the scene, so our complainants are not able to repair him."

Residents called the statue a neighborhood mascot, and said Spider-Man protected the area.

"He was a bunny for Easter, and he had all the fireworks stuff for the Fourth of July, so it's just always fun," said Kurt Kamperschroer, next-door neighbor.

The masked man behind the Facebook post, which said of the villains, "May the Avengers have mercy on your soul," was Officer Jeff Sartorius. He said he hoped the witty words would catch people's attention and help with the investigation -- asking people to use their "spidey sense" to help find those responsible for this vandalism.

"It's such an icon, type of thing, and I wish it never happened," said Marlene Smedbron, neighbor. "Nothing is safe."

Spider-Man once said, "With great power, comes great responsibility." Neighbors said they were hopeful the vandals would take responsibility for their actions.

"Maybe there was somebody who could've fixed it, and now, there's no head," said Smedbron. "You're not going to put Spider-Man out with no head."

The Facebook post by Muskego police summed up this incident in this way:

"Unfortunately, Peter Parker was hit by one of Coldheart’s cryonic swords that froze him in place. If that wasn’t bad enough, Sandman then pummeled the frozen Spider-Man and cast his dismembered frozen body parts."

Muskego police said if you or anyone you know has any information that would lead to the apprehension of our anti-Marvel fan, you are urged to contact Officer Patterson by calling 262-679-4130 as this qualifies for criminal damage to property.
