'They don't care:' 3 hurt when pursuit of reckless driver ended in crash involving MPD squad

MILWAUKEE — A pursuit involving a reckless driver ended in a crash involving a Milwaukee Police Department squad Tuesday morning, Oct. 8 near Sherman and Hampton.

It happened around 3:40 a.m., steps from an apartment building where neighbors said they want more police patrols, or at the very least, cameras because they believe it's a dangerous intersection.

"It's terrible," said a neighbor. "That's the only thing I can... it's terrible."

FOX6 News found neighbors have grown numb to the blatant disregard of the rules of the road.

"If you stand out here for a minute, you'd see how they -- look at that," said a neighbor. "Look at that one. That ain't no 30 miles an hour."

The dangers became all too real on Tuesday morning. Police said officers were attempting to catch up to reckless driver when the squad was struck by another vehicle. The squad was operating as an emergency vehicle at the time of the crash, police said. Two officers were transported to a hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the striking vehicle was also transported to a hospital with minor injuries.

"People are just not obeying the law," said Juan Seda, neighbor. "I wish I was a cop, and every time there was somebody that ran the light, I'd get on them."

This pursuit happened less than three months after city leaders rolled out a pilot program to crack down on reckless driving near specific intersections. Neighbors sai Sherman and Hampton should be one of them.

"They should pursue," said Seda. "The thing is, a lot of people don't obey. They don't care."
