'Just sad:' Man, woman could face animal cruelty charges after arrest at Milwaukee home

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police said a 24-year-old man and 18-year-old woman were arrested and expected to face animal cruelty charges after investigators were at a residence near 24th Place and W. Glendale Avenue for much of the day on Tuesday, Oct. 8.

Police served a search warrant at the home after receiving information that human remains were buried on the property. During an extensive search of the property and excavation of the yard, no human remains were recovered. MPD did recover the remains of a canine.

Officials also said a female pit bull was taken from the residence with an untreated broken leg. Officials said the animal was found chained up in the basement of the house -- which was filled with trash.

"You don't have to treat no animal like that. It's just sad. It shouldn't be going on," said Juanita Jones, who lives near the scene.

The 2-year-old pit bull was being treated by the Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission (MADACC).

"I hope the dog gets better. I really do," Jones said. "I hope the dog makes it, first of all, and find a good family."

The animal was expected to survive but may need its leg amputated.

Due to the debris located inside the property, it was deemed unfit for human habitation and boarded up.
