Milwaukee man dies after striking parked semi on shoulder of NB I-43 at Exit 96 in Saukville



OZAUKEE COUNTY -- A Milwaukee man, 38 died after his vehicle struck a semi parked on the shoulder of I-43 northbound Wednesday morning, Nov. 6 in Ozaukee County.

The crash happened around 8 a.m. at Exit 96. The Meijer semi was struck by a 2009 black Pontiac Vibe driven by Nicholas Schrott.

"I heard it," said Troy Justus. "A big thump -- 'boom!' The car was halfway under the semi. It looked like destruction."

Schrott was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi, a Michigan man, 57, was not injured.

Road conditions did play a factor in the crash -- with snow falling at the time.

"It was a little slippery," said Anastasia Vasilyeva. "It was still covered with snow."

"It was just bad road conditions," said Joseph Greuel. "It wasn't white-out, but it was a little slippery."

"Slow down for your safety and for others' safety," said Corderio Johnson.
