'Not credible:' Greenfield HS closed Tuesday due to comments about 'potential school shooting'

GREENFIELD -- Greenfield High School is closed Tuesday, Nov. 26 due to "some irresponsible comments about a potential school shooting," according to the Greenfield School District.

"In an abundance of caution, we are canceling classes at Greenfield High School. All other schools in the district will be open. All staff should report," said Greenfield School District officials.

According to school officials, the Greenfield Police Department does not believe the threat is credible. However, the district has canceled classes on Tuesday in order to have additional time to investigate the matter further.

The Greenfield School District released the following statement:

"The Greenfield Police Department thoroughly vetted the threat and found it was NOT credible, and the student admitted to making false statements. The Police Department is determining whether criminal charges are appropriate in this case, considering the significant disruption to the school community. The District appreciates the swift action taken by the Greenfield Police Department in investigating this threat and communicating with the District in a timely manner in order to make informed decisions.

Based upon the information we have gathered, and the fact that it was not a credible threat, Greenfield High School will hold all after school activities this evening."
