'We found near hoarder conditions:' 5 adults, 7 children evacuated during house fire near 20th and Burleigh

MILWAUKEE — Five adults and seven children were evacuated from a house fire near 20th and Burleigh Saturday, Nov. 30.

The Milwaukee Fire Department recieved a report of the fire around 6:30 a.m. Upon arrival, crews found a heavy fire coming out of the attic.

“We assisted five adults and seven children from the building, and made our way to the attic,” said Battalion Chief Dan Lipski. “We found near hoarder conditions up there with heavy fire load.”

Lipski said there was “so much stuff” in the attic because someone was living there.

Crews were able to extinguish the fire, but the fire caused extensive damage to the building. There were no injuries reported.

The Red Cross is taking care of those who were evacuated. Damages are estimated at over $150,000.
