'Heard her crying:' 8-year-old girl shot, taken to Children's Wisconsin; man arrested



MILWAUKEE -- An 8-year-old girl was struck in a shooting near 60th Street and Helena Street Wednesday, Dec. 11.

It happened around 4:30 p.m.

Police said the child was taken to Children's Wisconsin for treatment of injuries not believed life-threatening.

A 21-year-old man was taken into custody for recklessly endangering safety, and the handgun was recovered, police said.

Charges were being referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office.

FOX6's cameras on scene captured investigators spending a lot of time looking at a bicycle and the wall of a home. Neighbors said they heard the girl crying.

"We all went outside to see what was happening," said Jimmy Marshall, neighbor. "I heard her crying as they were taking her out on the stretcher. She cried a lot. She used to play with my son every day in the summertime. We are all concerned around here. I hope that she be all right."
