Semi jackknifes on I-43 at North Avenue, slows morning commute for thousands

MILWAUKEE -- The left lanes were closed for several hours on I-43 in both directions at North Avenue in Milwaukee Thursday morning, Feb. 13 due to a jackknifed semi.

The truck was headed northbound around 3:40 a.m. But in the wreck, the cab of the truck ended up straddling the median barriers -- and forcing authorities to shut down a portion of the southbound lanes.

The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office said there were no injuries, and the driver of the semi was cited for driving to fast for conditions and failure to have control.

The Milwaukee Fire Department's hazmat team was called in to contain and clean up 100 gallons of spilled fuel from the semi. Authorities say there was minor damage to a second semi that sideswiped the initial semi when it lost control before the crash. No other damage resulting from the crash was reported.

All lanes reopened around 8:10 a.m.
