'It's been rough:' Funeral services held for Joe Daniels, MU business dean struck by driver

MILWAUKEE -- A final farewell was held on Monday, Feb. 17 for the beloved dean of Marquette University's business school, Joseph Daniels. Daniels was struck and killed by a vehicle near 10th Street and Wisconsin Avenue in Milwaukee Tuesday night, Feb. 11.

Hundreds of mourners walked into Gesu Church on Monday morning for Daniels' funeral. They included family, friends, Marquette staff, as well as current and former students.

Loved ones describe Daniels as a family man, a remarkable educator, and someone who always looked on the bright side.

"We were thrilled when he was announced as the new dean of the business school. It's only tragic that his tenure in that role ended so abruptly," said Chris Merker.

"I spent a little bit of time with the family. It's been rough. Just trying to stay positive, I guess," said Max Kent.

In lieu of flowers, the Daniels family wishes to have gifts made in Joe’s honor to Marquette University, to help establish a scholarship in Joe’s name.
