Amber Alert for Baraboo girl followed pursuit of stolen vehicle; man taken into custody

BARABOO -- An Amber Alert was canceled Wednesday, Feb. 19 for a missing 16-year-old girl from Baraboo. Officials with the Sauk County Sheriff's Office said Kiera Krumenauer was located and returned home.

Krumenauer was reported to have been last seen Feb. 18 at 1:35 p.m. with Austin Dailey, 19, of Baraboo — in a stolen vehicle. She was believed to be in grave danger.

Baraboo police said on Tuesday, an officer spotted a silver Dodge Journey that was reported stolen, and as the officer was approaching the vehicle during a traffic stop, the driver fled. The officer pursued the vehicle, but the pursuit had to be terminated for safety reasons.

The driver was identified as Dailey -- with an arrest warrant out of Sauk County after he walked away from a Huber facility.

Police said "a much greater concern for the safety of Kiera and her willingness to be with the male caused an escalation in the investigation Wednesday," and the Amber Alert was issued "when other investigative leads failed." Shortly thereafter, officers learned of Krumenauer's location.

Baraboo police were referring charges related to the stolen vehicle, chase, and warrant against Dailey.

Anyone with further information was asked to contact Baraboo police.
