Border Report: Series shows what it’s like to live, work, travel along the US southern border

Lauren Keene is currently a student at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. She is double majoring in both Journalism, Advertising and Media Studies along with Digital Arts and Culture. She’ll be graduating in December of 2019, and she looks forward to an exciting career in journalism!

Before joining the Digital Team at Fox 6, Lauren was a freelance culture contributor at various Milwaukee publications including Shepherd Express and Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. She’s also won numerous awards for her college work, including first-place prizes from the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association, the Midwest Broadcast Journalists Association and the Milwaukee Press Club.

Outside of work, she’s a huge fan of music, fashion and all things vintage! She loves thrift shopping, going to shows and watching new T.V. shows.

    KENOSHA — The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department announced Saturday, Sept. 21 they identified the student who wrote the threatening message, “I will shoot up this school 5th grade” on the bathroom stall of Salem Grade School on Wednesday, Sept. 18.     MILWAUKEE — A 20-year-old man is being treated for his injuries following a shooting near Buffum and Center late Friday, Sept. 20. Police say the victim suffered a serious gunshot wound and was brought to a nearby hospital by a friend. The circumstances behind the shooting remained under investigation.

The man suffered a serious gunshot wound, and the woman suffered a graze wound. Police say the two separate victims were taken to nearby hospitals for their injuries.     MILWAUKEE — A 15-year-old boy is in the hospital following a shooting near 91st and Appleton Friday night, Sept. 20. According to police, the victim was playing in the area when an argument ensued between some men and shots were fired. The boy sustained a graze wound that was not life-threatening. He was taken to a nearby hospital by a family member. Police are seeking suspects involved.

    6-year-old girl wounded following accidental gun discharge inside home near 31st and St. Paul

    MILWAUKEE — A 6-year-old girl was wounded following an accidental discharge of a gun inside a home near 31st and St. Paul Friday evening, Sept. 20. Police said the incident happened around 9:30 p.m. The girl suffered a graze wound. A 19-year-old was taken into custody, and the case was referred to the district attorney for potential charges. Police did not disclose the girl’s condition.

    BROOKFIELD — The American Red Cross announced Saturday afternoon, Sept. 14 that they’ll be closing their temporary shelter at Elmbrook Church in Brookfield by Sunday at noon. The shelter was opened Friday to help residents displaced by the Waukesha apartment complex lightning strike fire.   • Driver, 16, seriously injured following car vs. garage crash in West Allis

    WEST ALLIS — A 16-year-old male was seriously injured after his car crashed into a garage near 61st and Washington late Friday, Sept. 6. Officials say the car struck a garage and rolled over. The driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle and suffered serious injuries. The crash was not related to a pursuit, and there was no police involvement prior to the accident.
