Armed robbery in Waukesha leads to lockdown of Walmart in New Berlin; two in custody

NEW BERLIN -- An armed robbery in Waukesha, and a subsequent pursuit of the suspect vehicle led to a lockdown at the Walmart store on Greenfield Avenue in New Berlin on Saturday, October 24th.

It all began around 3:20 p.m. -- when New Berlin police were advised of an armed robbery that had just occurred in Waukesha.

Waukesha police tell FOX6 News it happened at the Verizon Wireless store on Silvernail Road.

The suspects were identified as two or three black males, last seen driving a white SUV.

Shortly before 3:30 p.m., a New Berlin officer spotted the suspect vehicle near the intersection of Greenfield Avenue and S. Moorland Road, and officers followed that vehicle.

The suspect vehicle turned into the Walmart parking lot on W. Greenfield Avenue, and while in the parking lot, the suspects bailed from the vehicle.

Police say one suspect fled eastbound through the Walmart parking lot into a nearby cemetery. After a short foot pursuit, that suspect was taken into custody.

The other two suspects fled from the vehicle -- possibly going into the Walmart store.

One suspect was later seen running westbound through the marsh, along Greenfield Avenue.

That suspect was later taken into custody at the Walgreens store on Greenfield Avenue.

The third suspect remains at large.

Meanwhile, the Walmart store was locked down and all customers and employees were asked to exit the store.

Officers from New Berlin, Brookfield, and the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department worked to secure the store.

The suspects, suspect vehicle and evidence in this case were handed over to the Waukesha Police Department.
