Business Journal: Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz to meet with Dontre Hamilton's family in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz is coming to Milwaukee to meet with the family of Dontre Hamilton, the Milwaukee Business Journal reports.

Hamilton was shot and killed last April by former Milwaukee Police Officer Christopher Manney. This week, a Fire and Police Commission panel ruled Manney violated MPD policy in patting Hamilton down inside Red Arrow Park, and also that Manney's use of force violated policy. The panel ruled unanimously to uphold Manney's termination from MPD -- so he will never again be a Milwaukee police officer.

This ruling came after Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm in December announced Manney wouldn't face criminal charges in connection with this incident.

The Milwaukee Business Journal says the meeting between the Hamilton family and Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz will occur in front of Starbucks' Red Arrow Park location downtown.

A company spokeswoman told the Business Journal by email:

"Howard Schultz is planning to meet with Dontre Hamilton’s family in Milwaukee. As this is a private conversation of the family, we are not sharing any additional details."

Employees at the Red Arrow Park Starbucks called police regarding Hamilton, who was sleeping outside the coffee shop early last year. Those calls to police preceded the fatal officer-involved shooting.
