BUSTED! New Berlin police arrest three burglary suspects who may be responsible for crimes in other counties
NEW BERLIN (WITI) -- New Berlin police say some alert citizens helped to bust a daytime burglary ring, and they say the suspects may be responsible for burglaries in Milwaukee and Waukesha counties.
Police say the suspects' method of operation was to look for what appeared to be unoccupied homes. The suspects would approach the homes -- knocking on the front door. If someone answered, they asked for directions and went on their way. If no one answered, they would kick in the back door and burglarize the home.
They started on the southeast corner of the city, and were scared away by barking dogs, according to police.
The suspects then moved on to Coldspring Road and found someone to be home. Police say the suspects then asked for directions and left.
The suspects ended up at another home near Sunnyslope and Cleveland, and police say they then broke into a home just east of there. Police say all the property they took from this burglary has been recovered. Further investigation and search warrants will be needed to recover additional items from other burglaries in New Berlin and around the area.
New Berlin police teamed up with Mequon PD, Brookfield PD, Wauwatosa PD and Elm Grove PD for help investigating this case.
Police say three adults from Milwaukee are being charged for the New Berlin burglary and they'll likely be questioned by other area police departments in this ongoing investigation.
Police are thanking some alert citizens from the first two burglary attempts, who immediately called in suspicious activity and provided police with suspect and vehicle descriptions.
