Cab drivers rally: Debate over tax license cap and regulations
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The debate over lifting a cap on taxi cab licenses in Milwaukee is still sitting in the park.
A Public Transportation Review Board meeting was held Friday morning, June 13th. Outside of the meeting more than 100 cab drivers held a rally.
The drivers want the cap put on the number of taxi licenses to be lifted.
Meanwhile, people from Uber and Lyft were also at the meeting. The ride-sharing services are fighting a measure that would regulate their companies.
"They also currently subject to more stringent background checks, and carry more insurance than their neighbors who regulate as full-time professional drivers, their vehicles face rigorous and ongoing quality assessments," said Felipe Pereira, Lyft community organizer.
The committee decided today to move up a vote on that issue -- to next week.
