MILWAUKEE (AP) — Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin is closing its Fond du Lac clinic this fall due to budget cuts. It'll be the fifth clinic the group will have closed in two years because of a lack of state funding.
Planned Parenthood said Thursday the Fond du Lac center will close September 25. That will leave 22 clinics remaining around the state. Patients will be referred to Planned Parenthood clinics in Oshkosh and West Bend.
The organization's president, Teri Huyck (hyk), says the closure will be a loss for patients who relied on the center for cancer screenings and birth control.
None of the five clinics offered abortions.
Huyck says the closures are a direct consequence of the Legislature eliminating $1 million in state funding for the group in the last budget.
