Coyote kills Dachshund in Elm Grove just three days before similar attack in Wauwatosa

WAUWATOSA/ELM GROVE-- Two dogs in one week. Coyote attacks are being reported this week not only in Wauwatosa, but also in Elm Grove. So far, two dogs are dead and a third reportedly got away.

In neighborhoods of Wauwatosa and Elm Grove, neighbors are warning neighbors. It comes after a coyote attacked a Dachshund along the Underwood Parkway on Thursday, September 10th.

A 911 call describes the boldness of the animal.

"I see a coyote chasing a dog and its owner," said the 911 caller.

The Dachshund was so severely injured it had to be euthanized. Wauwatosa police are taking it seriously.

"We had an officer stationed at Underwood Parkway. We sent him out around 6 a.m. to see if the coyote would return to the area," said Lieutenant Brian Zalewski of the Wauwatosa Police Department.

No coyote returned, but there was a sighting not far away in Elm Grove.

FOX6 News has learned there were more coyote dog attacks this week.

Otis

On Labor Day, police say they have a report of another coyote attack that killed yet another Dachshund near 124th and Elmhurst Parkway. The dog's owner says they put "Otis" on a leash outside their home for a few minutes around 11 p.m. When they went to bring him in, Otis was gone. The family searched all night and the next day. Todd Precour found the body of his dog, ripped by the wild animal.

"The best we can figure out the coyote grabbed him and ripped him right out of his collar and kept going. He's about three, four blocks away between Wauwatosa and Elm Grove," said Precour.

Precour says he'd like to warn others.

"If I were able to do this over again we would be with him with a light on. Stay close to your dog, especially if it's a small dog," said Precour.

Neighbors in the Elm Grove neighborhood tell FOX6 News, a few days ago there was another coyote attack. One neighbor chased it away from yet a third potential victim. That small dog survived.
