MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin on Tuesday, August 13th visited Milwaukee and Madison to announce new legislation she is sponsoring to strengthen America’s commitment to the next generation of research, science, and innovation.
Senator Baldwin’s new legislation, the Next Generation Research Act, builds off of Wisconsin’s proud tradition of being a leader in research, science, and innovation. Groundbreaking research supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) alone adds more than $800 million per year to Wisconsin’s economy.
The Next Generation Research Act will create a new Initiative within the NIH to help support our next generation of researchers; promote current and new policies aimed at improving opportunities for young scientists; and conduct a comprehensive study on the best possible ways our country can establish the next generation of research.
"I hope that what it will do is set the stage for the funding that we know that needs to flow to the NIH to make this a reality. What I mean is that we don't lose a generation of promising young scientists," Sen. Baldwin said.
Sen. Baldwin says she is hoping for bipartisan support for the bill she will be introducing in September.
