LAS VEGAS, Nevada -- As a tribute to victims of the Las Vegas mass shooting, the UNLV football team will wear special helmets Saturday, October 7th vs. San Diego State. In addition, the school is planning a pre-game tribute, including an American flag covering the entire field during the national anthem. San Diego State players will have a red ribbon with "Las Vegas" on their helmets as well.
An assistant hockey coach at UNLV was shot in the chest when a gunman opened fire on an outdoor country music show, killing 58 people and wounding hundreds more.
The school said on Monday that Nick Robone had surgery to remove a bullet from his chest after being shot while attending the show at Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino on Sunday night.
General manager Zee Khan says Robone is breathing with help from a ventilator and is in stable condition.
The team says the bullet missed Robone's lung, and he is expected to fully recover. The team says he will be hospitalized "for the near future."
Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo said the hundreds who were wounded were taken to five southern Nevada hospitals.
