Walker's proposed budget cuts has teachers speaking out "It's hard being an educator right now"
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Dozens of teachers, students and parents rallied in Milwaukee today -- speaking out against Governor Scott Walker's proposed budget.
The rally was held at Ziedler Park.
Those speaking talked about the need to restore funding to public schools. They also were demonstrating against stricter standardized testing standards, which is supported by Walker's administration.
Teachers say all these cuts are sending the wrong message to educators.
"It's hard being an educator right now, we know that. Our pay has been cut and our benefits have been cut. As far as being valued by society, sometimes we really feel like we're not," said Milwaukee Public School Teacher, Ingrid Walker-Henry.
Walker is also proposing a $300 million cut for the UW system. Again, the state budget is still far from a done deal. It still needs to be approved by the legislature.
Several republican lawmakers have also said Walker's proposed education cuts go too far.
