Waukesha students write letters to families of Sandy Hook

WAUKESHA -- They don't have much to offer. But high school students in Waukesha are sending what they can to grieving families in Newtown, Connecticut.

Organizers of a letter-writing campaign at Waukesha North High School say they hope to send 1,000 letters and cards to Connecticut by the end of the week.

High school senior Crystal Herrington organized the group "Northstars for Newtown" over the weekend.

"We're gonna be collecting drawings, letters, prayers or cards -- anything that your heart feels compelled to give, including money," said Herrington. "And the money we're gonna be collecting is gonna go towards the counseling and psychological help these kids and their families are going to need."

Each student puts their own touch on the letter, hoping it will reach the friends and families of Sandy Hook victims.

The group "Ordinary Heroes" worked with the Waukesha North students to launch the project. They've already raised funds for victims in Aurora, CO and Oak Creek, WI. Now, they're working with the students to raise spirits in Newtown.
