The white car stopped for a brief moment, and then accelerated north on S. 84 St., initiating a pursuit. According to a criminal complaint, the car accelerated to speeds in excess of approximately 100 miles per hour.

The car eventually reached a dead-end where it left the roadway and drove into an embankment approximately eight feet below the ground.

The total vehicle pursuit was approximately 5.3 miles.

Foot pursuit

The vehicle became disabled and the driver's door opened. The officer observed the driver, later identified as Sprewell, who leaped out of the ravine, fleeing on foot from the crash and into a heavily wooded area.

Sprewell was pursued on foot for about half a mile until he fell over.

Sprewell was taken into custody and it was discovered he had cocaine on him.
