MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Packers QB Aaron Rodgers on Tuesday, November 5th announced he suffered a fractured collarbone during the Packers vs. Bears game at Lambeau Field Monday night. During an interview with 540 ESPN Tuesday, Rodgers said it’s hard to gauge how long it will take him to heal -- and this has some fans worried.
"It was like a shot to the stomach," Richard Withers said.
Withers said he came home on Monday night and noticed something was amiss when he saw the Packers vs. Bears game on, and his wife's reaction.
"When I saw her face, either someone had died or some other news of a Washington shutdown or something had come across," Withers said.
It was neither -- but it was bad news for Packers fans across the state. Rodgers had left the game with an injury.
"It's just a bummer. I mean, that was our star," Nathan Denton said.
Tom Beringer was at Lambeau Field, watching it all unfold.
"I think everyone was shocked when they heard Seneca Wallace's name was announced as the new starting quarterback. The hit looked tough. But it was surprising that he was that injured," Beringer said.
At the time, the extent of Rodgers' injury was unknown -- but many immediately began thinking of who could replace him.
"Matt Flynn was pretty awesome," Denton said.
"Brett Favre? Number 4? Get the bat signal out for number 4," Beringer said.
At 1250 WSSP the phone lines were lighting up during the Bill Michaels Show on Tuesday. However, the disappointment of losing Rodgers didn't take the optimism away from some of the callers.
"I think we'll win the NFC North and Mr. Rodgers will dictate what happens in the playoffs," one caller said.
After a Packers loss to the rival Bears and a Rodgers injury, some weren't as chipper as they usually are in the morning!
"When I talked with the baristas, who should be pretty up with all the caffeine in their environment, they seemed to be a little bit down at the coffee shop this morning," Withers said.
Gov. Walker also reacted to Rodgers' injury on Tuesday, saying: "For us, Matt Flynn would be a guy who proved himself as a Packer -- certainly is conveniently available and I for one, just as a fan -- and I think like a lot of other fans across the state and country would love to see the Packers sign Matt Flynn as quickly as possible."
Rodgers told ESPN Milwaukee Tuesday there is no timetable as to when he could return. Many of the fans FOX6 News spoke with believe the Packers will make the playoffs and Rodgers will be back to lead them.
