UW regents to consider raising tuition at 3 schools

MADISON — University of Wisconsin System regents are considering raising tuition for nonresident and graduate students at three institutions next year.The regents' finance committee is set to vote on a proposal Thursday that calls for raising undergraduate nonresident tuition by $355 and graduate tuition by $430 at UW-Eau Claire; raising nonresident graduate business school tuition by $539 at UW-Milwaukee; and raising graduate nonresident tuition by $296 at UW-Stout.The increases are expected to generate about $186,275 in additional revenue across the three schools.Committee approval would clear the way for a full regents vote on the plan during a meeting Friday at UW-Madison.

Former dean wants $800K from UW-Milwaukee

MADISON — A former University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee business school dean wants the state Claims Board pay him nearly $800,000 because university officials broke employment promises.According to board documents, Timothy Smunt alleges the school broke its promise to rely on a survey of business schools to establish his salary and set his pay too low.

UWM Panthers fall to Illinois-Chicago 74-56

At least $31,000 raised in MU-UWM exhibition game for Puerto Rico hurricane relief

MILWAUKEE -- Marquette University and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee renewed their basketball rivalry Sunday, October 22nd, and raised more than $31,000 for hurricane relief efforts in Puerto Rico.More than 2,000 people attended the first exhibition game of the season for either team, Marquette officials said.

Scientists at UWM helped research that won Nobel Prize

MILWAUKEE — Scientists at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee played a role in breakthrough research on gravitational waves that earned a Nobel Prize in physics.Researchers Barry Barish and Kip Thorne of California and Massachusetts scientist Rainer Weiss were awarded the Nobel Prize Tuesday.

"No danger:" UWM arts building reopens after suspicious package found

MILWAUKEE -- The UWM arts building was temporarily closed Wednesday morning, October 4th as police investigated a suspicious package.Authorities were called  to the scene shortly before 8:30 a.m.According to school officials, the package was investigated and "found to be no danger to the campus community." The art building has since reopened.
