Milwaukee’s Energy Efficiency Me 2 program helps homeowners lower their energy bill

The City of Milwaukee has a deal for homeowners who want to make sure improvements and lower their energy cost.

The sight of Toni King’s home is deceiving. It’s 3,000 square feet and in the winter it gets drafty, even though she usually pays $300 or more a month for heat.

Toni isn’t letting that happen this year. She’s working with an energy advocate through the City of Milwaukee’s Energy Efficiency Me 2 program. A person who will walk you through the paperwork and planning.

For $100, an energy specialist will come and asses the work that needs to be done to your home. If you choose to do the recommended work, you’ll get that $100 back. Weatherization Service Rep. Devin Hawthorne says, “If you are experiencing ice daming, or other mold issues those can be efficiency related it’s important to have someone come out and open up your eyes to all the things you can do to improve the efficiency of your home.”

Plus through a partnership with Summit Credit Union, you could qualify for a loan without needing any home equity.

The loans are between $1,000 to $15,000 to make those improvements, and you can pay over 15 years.

If you complete the work by December 31st, you can get up to $1,000 back. City of Milwaukee Director of Energy Matt Howard says, “There is an environmental impact, because we are increasing the efficiency of our homes. But again at the end of the day it’s for those homeowners to save money, and be cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter.”
