Brewers Nyjer Morgan wants a big year this season
MARYVALE, AZ -- It is hard to believe that at this time last year, very few Milwaukee Brewers fans really new much about outfielder Nyjer Morgan - a new acquisition. By the end of the year, he was definitely an open book, and this season, he's back for more.
Morgan was responsible for some of the signature moments of the last Brewers season - not bad for a Spring Training acquisition. As a result, his winter was pretty enjoyable.
"It was probably one of the best offseasons that I've ever had. Besides skating with the sharks, my YouTube videos, just living life and a lot of it had to do with the season that we had, too," Morgan said.
The Brewers won 96 games last season, and a division title. Morgan hit a career-best .304 and brought his alter ego, Tony Plush into the public eye.
"When you do it on the highest level, a lot more doors open up for you, too. I was just able to be myself, and a lot of people enjoyed it. I am going to keep doing what I'm doing. I won't burn any bridges, but Plush is always going to be Plush. I just live life to the fullest. I can't tell it - I just live it," Morgan said.
Live by the sword and die by the sword, Morgan did get himself into a handful of combustible situations last year, but he is not looking for a repeat in that area.
"Basically, I learned off my own mistakes. I don't really think I need people to come up to me and tell me what I should do and what I shouldn't do. I'm a grown man and basically I just have to understand when to bust it out and when not to. As long as I do that, everything is going to be fun," Morgan said.
It is hard to imagine Morgan not busting it out, one way or the other, on the field or off. Morgan and the team would gladly enjoy another ride like last season's.
Morgan will be the team's main center fielder this season, while Carlos Gomez plays the position when the Brewers are going against left-handed pitchers.
