Body found in Chicago train derailment wreckage

NORTHBROOK, Ill. (AP) -- Authorities are now saying two bodies have been found in a vehicle discovered in the wreckage of a freight train hauling coal that derailed and took out a railroad bridge in the northern Chicago suburbs.

Glenview Police Chief William Fitzpatrick said Thursday, July 5th that the bodies have not been identified.

Union Pacific spokesman Tom Lange says the derailment of 138-car train, traveling from Wyoming to Wisconsin, caused 31 cars to pile up on a bridge, which collapsed onto a roadway between Glenview and Northbrook.

Lange says the bridge was not built to hold that much weight. He says 28 of the cars fell into the gap caused by the collapse.

Lange said the railroad "would like to express its deepest sympathies to the families of the deceased.''
