Deputy Sergio Aleman killed in wreck on southbound I-43

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee County Sheriff's Deputy Sergio Aleman was killed in a crash in the southbound lanes of I-43 near downtown Milwaukee early Tuesday afternoon.

The wreck happened on I-43 near Juneau Ave. around 12:15 p.m. Tuesday. The Wisconsin State Patrol tells FOX6 News the wreck involved a flat bed tow truck and the deputy's patrol vehicle. One rear-ended the other. The deputy's vehicle came to rest against the median wall. Deputy Aleman was in the vehicle at the time of the crash. The person driving the tow truck was not hurt.

Deputy Aleman was conveyed to Froedtert Hospital where he was later pronounced dead from his injuries.

The southbound lanes of I-43 were shut down until about 4 p.m.

Officials are saying little about the circumstances behind this crash. More details are expected to come out Wednesday at 1 p.m. when Sheriff David Clarke will hold a news conference. At this time, Sheriff Clarke is at a Homeland Security training session in California.

Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele issued the following statement on the Aleman death. He said...

    Flags at the Milwaukee County Courthouse and Vel R. Phillips Juvenile Justice Center will be flown at half-staff for 30 days to honor Deputy Aleman.
