One hurt, two in custody following shooting in South Milwaukee

SOUTH MILWAUKEE -- Police say one man is hurt and two people are in custody following a shooting at Southtowne Place apartments in South Milwaukee early Wednesday morning.

Police responded to the scene around 1:30 a.m. after a 56-year-old man who was shot in the head. Officers say the shooting took place inside the first floor unit of the complex.

The 56-year-old victim was transported to Froedtert Hospital. The extent of his injuries is unknown at this time.

Authorities say a 45-year-old woman was arrested at the scene in connection to the shooting. Following the arrest, police discovered that another person was still inside the apartment, and was resisting to exit.

Officials believe the man resisted  because of an outstanding warrant. The resist prompted a more than two hour standoff with police.

Police say residents of the Southtowne Place apartments were evacuated from the building. Multiple agencies were called to the scene to assist. The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office then brought in an armored vehicle, broke the window and forced entry into the building and arrested the man for the outstanding warrant.

"The Sheriff's department, with the assistance of Cudahy police, forcefully entered the residence and did take one person into custody, who, it is now believed did not come out of the residence due to an outstanding warrant," Lt. Chad Milow said.

No other details have been released -- including the circumstances surrounding the shooting or the relationship between the suspect and victim.

The South Milwaukee Police Department says they are seeking no other victims or suspects as a result of the incident.
