Police investigating additional reports involving Oak Leaf Trail assault suspect

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police have arrested a man they believe is responsible for assaulting a woman on the Oak Leaf Trail last week. Police have yet to release this man's name, as they say since his arrest, additional victims have come forward.

Police had released a sketch of the suspect, and had asked for the public's help in locating him.

Police say the 41-year-old man approached a female jogger, grabbed her, fondled her and took off. Law enforcement sources told FOX6 News the suspect confessed to the crime.

Now, police say they are investigating several other reports of assaults that occurred before this latest assault on the Oak Leaf Trail.

FOX6 News has learned the suspect has a history of legal problems that date back to the late 1980s.

In 2012, Shorewood police arrested the man for trespassing and theft. In 2008, he pleaded guilty to a felony burglary charge, and served two-and-a-half years in prison.

Additionally, this man has five different domestic violence charges dating back to 1989. In both 1993 and 2003 he had restraining orders filed against him, and he reportedly violated a restraining order in 1994.

Caleb Johnson lives near the suspect, and saw him get arrested.

"It's creepy. It's like storybook villain stuff -- bad guys in the park you hear about," Johnson said.

Johnson said part of his concern stems from the suspect's past criminal history.

Investigators believe there may be more victims who haven't yet reported incidents involving this suspect to police. Police are asking those women to give them a call and share any information they may have about their encounter with the suspect.
