As Packers head West, Racine family headed South to cheer Seahawks

RACINE -- The Green Bay Packers are heading west to take on the San Francisco 49ers this weekend, but some of their die-hard fans are heading south! A Racine family is heading to Atlanta to see the Falcons take on the Seahawks because their son, Chris is on the team. The Maragos family says they are hoping for a dream NFC Championship matchup.

26-year-old Chris Maragos is a safety for the Seattle Seahawks. Ironically, he was signed by the 49ers as an undrafted free agent in 2010.

Maragos played college football at Western Michigan before transferring to play for the Wisconsin Badgers.

The Seahawks promoted Maragos to the active roster on October 22nd, 2011.

A native of Racine, and an alumnus of Racine's Horlick High School, Maragos' former coach says he dedicated himself to being the best -- regardless of his limitations.

"He's been the underdog his whole life -- being a little bit smaller than everybody else. He stepped in as a senior and he was an instant leader among his peers," Maragos' former coach, Brian Fletcher said.

This weekend, Maragos' parents, Nick and Cindy, are headed south for the weekend to see their son, #42 play when Atlanta takes on Seattle.

Without getting ahead of themselves, Maragos' parents say they are well aware of the possibility her son could be playing in the NFC Championship against the Packers -- the team they've cheered on for their whole lives.

"It's an unbelievable thought. (Seattle) is a very hot team, and the Packers are very hot too. We've got two hot teams right now. If it's the Seahawks and Packers, guess what? It's a win-win for us in the state of Wisconsin and the Maragos family," Cindy Maragos said.

If both the Packers and the Seahawks win this weekend, the Maragos family plans on going to the game at Lambeau Field for the NFC Championship.
