Body recovered near Wisconsin Ave. bridge in Milwaukee identified

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A body was recovered on Thursday, January 10th by the Milwaukee Fire Department from the Milwaukee River near the Wisconsin Ave. bridge in the downtown area.

According to the Milwaukee Police Department, the recovered body is NOT the body of Nick Wilcox, who has been missing from the same area since New Year's Eve.

Late on Thursday evening, Milwaukee police said the body was identified as that of 51-year-old Robert John Silverman.

Wilcox's sister Andrea and her family came to the scene, wondering whether they were about to get answers as to what happened to her 24-year-old brother.

Wilcox was last seen leaving the Irish Rec Room bar near 3rd and State, just north of where the body was found.

"I don't know if we were necessarily hoping that it was my brother, but just hoping that we had something, I guess, at some point," Andrea Wilcox said.

Wilcox's sister and his girlfriend, Kelly McGonagil say they are exhausted and heartbroken, but keep hoping they will find Wilcox soon.

"It's been a roller coaster. Very frustrating. You go back and forth being sad to frustrated to -- sometimes I can't even explain the feeling I guess," Andrea Wilcox said.

"We want some kind of answer -- just anything," McGonagil said.

The Milwaukee Police Department is working with the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office on identifying the body found Thursday and determining the cause of death.
