Former Sheb. Mayor Bob Ryan arrested for drunk driving

CITY OF KIEL (WITI) -- Former Sheboygan Mayor Bob Ryan was arrested Sunday night, March 3rd for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

According to police, 49-year-old Ryan was stopped at approximately 11:54 p.m. while driving east on County Highway XX, near State Highway 67.

Following the traffic stop, Ryan was arrested and transported to Holy Family Memorial Hospital in Manitowoc for a legal blood draw.

Ryan was then transported to the Manitowoc County Jail where he was held on a 12 hour detention.

Ryan was issued a municipal traffic citation for OWI and his initial court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday, April 23rd.

This comes on the heels of Ryan reaching a plea deal with prosecutors on allegations he groped a woman during a 2011 drinking binge in Elkhart Lake. Ryan denied the allegations, but was found guilty of two counts of disorderly conduct in that case.

"There was no incident. I did not do anything illegal. Nothing ever happened," Ryan said in court that day.

Immediately following the February sentencing, Ryan spoke to reporters about his efforts to move away from the public eye and his battle with alcoholism.

"Sobriety is something I work on everyday of my life. I attend regular meetings. One thing nice about not being a public official is now my private life is private, and I intend to keep it that way," Ryan said.

Prosecutors say the latest allegations will have no impact on Ryan's sentencing.

Ryan is expected back in court on April 23rd.
