MILWAUKEE (WITI) — The East Library closed its doors for good on Saturday, June 22nd, after 45 years of service.

The library is being demolished to clear space for the new East Branch of the MIlwaukee Public Library, which is expected to be completed in late 2014.

The new East Branch will be part of a multi-use development featuring 99 apartments with a 16,000 square foot library and retail space.

Users of the East Library will have access to a temporary library opening July 1st at 2430 N Murray Ave.
