FOX6's Ted Perry, Vince Condella ride Harleys to Milwaukee in 2008

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The city of Milwaukee and surrounding areas are gearing up for Harley-Davidson's big 110th anniversary celebration, and one thing Harley did NOT do this year, is organize rides into Milwaukee from the four corners of the United States. In 2008, FOX6's Vince Condella and Ted Perry covered two of the routes in.

Condella began his journey in the eastern time zone. Fitting for the meteorologist that the trip began where the weather action was, with Tropical Storm Fay making for a soggy trip out of South Carolina.

Perry began in the nation's capital.

Condella, on his 2008 Street Glide, moved into North Carolina and then through the most spectacular stretch -- the "Tail of the Dragon," with its remarkable 318 turns in 11 miles -- and a reminder that not everyone makes it out without getting snapped by the dragon.

Meanwhile, Perry was in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, where Wisconsin soldiers fought bravely 150 years ago.

Both moved forward -- Condella to London, Kentucky, where he found people from London, England who couldn't wait for the 105th.

Perry visited the Harley plant in York, Pennsylvania, where his Harley-Davidson softtail was built more than a decade ago. Then, to Dayton, Ohio, where Perry asked Willie G. Davidson if these rides home have their roots in the rides his father used to do to market new bikes many years ago.

"The whole thing is intertwined. The roads are different and the times were different but it's still a two-wheeled vehicle on open roads with friends and family," Davidson said.

From there, it was on to Bloomington, Illinois where Perry and Condella met up. Condella led the way home, with FOX6 viewers watching, all the way until the two arrived at Suburban Harley-Davidson in Thiensville.
