Officials respond to apartment fire in Brown Deer Saturday
BROWN DEER (WITI) -- North Shore Fire officials on Saturday, August 24th responded to reports of an apartment fire in the 4300 block of W. Bradley Road.
Upon arrival of Brown Deer Police Officers, residents advised that the fire was in apartment #202. The entire apartment complex was evacuating as there was an audible fire alarm sounding.
Upon arriving at apartment #202, officers found that the apartment was full of smoke and the water sprinkler system was activated in the apartment. There did not appear to be anyone in the apartment and officers later learned that the residents of the apartment had already evacuated.
The North Shore Fire Department arrived and verified that the fire had been extinguished.
The apartment owner in #202 was at home at the time of the fire. She reported that she had been cooking and fell asleep with the pan still on the stove top. The resident stated she awoke, after the smoke alarm had sounded, to flames on the stove and an apartment filled with smoke.
The resident stated that her daughter attempted to put out the fire using a fire extinguisher however she was unable to. They then evacuated the apartment. No one in the apartment received any injuries.
Apartment #202 had some fire, smoke and extensive water damage, from the sprinkler system being activated, and the residents will be displaced until repairs are made. Two apartments below #202 also suffered water damage and those residents will also be displaced until repairs are made.
An investigation into the fire is continuing. It should be noted however that the cause of the fire does not appear suspicious.
