Man allegedly threatens woman, brings up Trayvon Martin

RACINE (WITI) -- 36-year-old Nathan Leger of Racine faces multiple criminal charges for allegedly threatening a woman and firing a gun.

Leger faces charges included second-degree recklessly endangering safety, threats to injure, possession of THC and disorderly conduct (use of a dangerous weapon).

According to the criminal complaint, Racine police were called to a home on Blaine Ave. around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 28th for a report of someone shooting a gun.

In the complaint, a witness stated she was sitting on a brick wall near 15th and Blaine. That's when Leger allegedly approached and told her she had to leave. The woman told Leger she was waiting for a ride. That's when the complaint says Leger "then produced a silver 'cowboy' handgun with a 'wheel' and held it with two hands, pointed it at an angle into the air...and fired one time."

The complaint indicates Leger then said to the woman, "You don't want this to be another Trayvon Martin case, do you? I advise you to move along." The woman then called police.

When confronted by police, the complaint says Leger told them he lit an M-80 firework and threw it into the street. "He thought this would scare (the woman) and make her leave. Officers did search for but did not find any traces of a spent firework.

After getting a search warrant, police went into Leger's home and found a .454 caliber revolver. The gun matched the description given by the woman in this case. When police confronted Leger about whether he owned any guns, "he paused a little and said yes. And when they asked him about the .454 caliber gun that was found in the rafters, he immediately requested an attorney."

If convicted, Leger faces up to ten years in prison and $25,000 in fines. He's due back in court for his preliminary hearing on Thursday, October 10th.
