Hundreds drop off household hazardous waste at collection

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Hundreds of Milwaukee County residents took advantage of a mobile collection site on Saturday, October 12th to drop off their unwanted household hazardous waste.

About 20 employees from Veolia Environmental Services were just outside of the Wisconsin State Fair Park grounds to collect the hazardous waste. They'll make sure it is properly disposed.

Chris Bahlow is a project manager with Veolia which has partnered with the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District to offer this event. He says the drive-through operation is designed to offer people a convenient way to dispose of their hazardous materials -- everything including pesticides, fluorescent light bulbs and even oil-based paints.

As an added incentive to take part, five random drivers received a pair of Milwaukee Bucks tickets.
