CEDARBURG (WITI) -- After thousands of shoppers took part in Black Friday many are hunting for bargains during Small Business Saturday, scooping up big deals in their own back yards.

Armbruster Jewelers in Cedarburg was just one of the family owned businesses looking forward to consumers shopping locally on Saturday, November 30th. They say it's a chance for mom and pop shops to get the exposure they need.

"We have jewelry and fine gifts and we try to have something in everyone's price range," said manager Anna Marie Armbruster.

Some shoppers believe patronizing local businesses provides a better experience than battling for bargains at retail giants.

"It's a lot more customer friendly experience where you can, if you have questions, actually have knowledgeable people that can help you," said Steve Alper.

Not only is the day a big boost for revenue, but workers at Cedarburg Toy Company say it also encourages community support.

"In our store, everything is either locally made or made here in the U.S.," said employee Natasha Loos.

Small business owners say they depend on this particular shopping day to thrive.

"I think it reminds people we are here 365 days a year. Come visit us, don't forget about us," said Armbruster.

This is the fourth year for Small Business Saturday, which is sponsored by American Express. Seventy percent of businesses that participated said the event helped attract new customers.

So, you are a proud American, now that you did your part and participated in Small Business Saturday.

    Wrong.

You proudly spent money in a small store today.

On things that were… Made in China.

To restock the shelves, the store owner will take the money, and purchase goods… Made in China.

He/she will take the PROFITS from your purchase, and use the money to buy Christmas gifs for his/her family that were… Made in China.

The Cedarburg Toy Company only carries toys made in the US. There are several stores in Cedarburg that specialize in hand-made in the US goods. I know what you’re saying, though. I still would rather shop small and locally for my foreign made products.
