Sprinkler pipe bursts, shuts down Lake Country Lutheran H.S.

HARTLAND (WITI) -- Lake Country Lutheran High School has been shut down after a sprinkler system pipe burst at the school on Tuesday, December 10th.

Bitter cold weather is the likely culprit -- and it appears to have started in an art class on the second floor.

"Student noticed that some water was dripping so we notified the maintenance staff," said Principal Dwayne Jobst.

Jobst said in a matter of minutes, a drip spiraled into a total disaster. A sprinkler head broke off, sending water through the hallways and to the main office.

"From the odor of the water that spewed out of the sprinkler system students were already starting to smell that," said Jobst.

The water is turned off but officials say they have hours of cleanup ahead of them.

The school was closed for all of Tuesday -- all after-school activities included. School officials also say the school will be closed on Wednesday. Officials will determine on Wednesday whether extra curricular activities will be held on Wednesday.
