Medical Examiner releases report on fatal fire in West Allis

WEST ALLIS (WITI) --  The Medical Examiner’s report has been released in connection with a fatal fire that occurred on Thursday, February 6th at the Heritage House senior living complex in West Allis.

The call for the fire came in just before 3:30 p.m.

Upon arrival, officials located 70-year-old Carol Krajcir  inside a smoke-filled apartment. Authorities say Krajcir was disabled and in a wheelchair from a past stroke.

The report indicates that crews were able to pull Krajcir out of the fire and regain a pulse three times. However, Krajcir eventually had no further cardiac response and was pronounced dead.

According to the Medical Examiner's report, the fire appears to have started in a couch cushion.  The report indicates that the fire may be due to careless smoking.

The official cause of death in this case is thermal injuries and inhalation of products of combustion.
