Police find child porn in home of man busted in "cameras in locker room" case

KENOSHA CO. (WITI) -- One of two suspects accused in a case involving cameras set up inside the women's locker room at the RecPlex in Pleasant Prairie will stand trial in the case -- and we have learned he now has a criminal warrant out of Waukegan, Illinois. Additionally, Pleasant Prairie police say they have evidence to indicate cameras were placed inside the women's locker room at Uline.

Melissa Wenckebach

36-year-old Karl Landt of Waukegan, Illinois and 27-year-old Melissa Wenckebach of Pleasant Prairie have each been charged with 11 felony counts of possession of images depicting nudity.

A criminal complaint against Landt says Wenckebach told police she "lost a bet" to Landt -- a co-worker at Uline, and had agreed to set up cameras in the women's locker room.

According to the complaint, the woman said Landt purchased the cameras and gave them to her to set up.

The woman told police she would typically set up the cameras when she arrived at the RecPlex, and record while she worked out, according to the complaint.

The complaint says the woman told police Landt would make comments indicating that he looked forward to watching the videos at home after work.

The investigation began when a woman at the RecPlex noticed a camera inside a locker.

We are now learning that during the execution of a search warrant at Landt's home in Waukegan, Illinois related to this case, numerous computer memory devices were located and turned over to police.

During an examination of a file located on one of those devices, a file known to be child pornography was located -- according to Pleasant Prairie police.

Waukegan authorities have now launched an investigation into the files found within Landt's home -- and a criminal warrant has been issued against Landt out of Waukegan, Illinois.

We are also learning Pleasant Prairie police have evidence to indicate cameras were set up in a women's locker room at Uline's corporate building in Pleasant Prairie. That investigation is ongoing.

During a court appearance on Thursday, April 17th, a judge upped bond for Landt to $50,000. He had previously been out on bail, but is now back in custody.

Landt faces a maximum of three years and six months in prison and a maximum of $10,000 in fines on each charge against him, if he is convicted. Landt is due back in court on May 27th.

Pleasant Prairie police say they are continuing a very thorough and sensitive investigation which is expected to span the course of several months due to the volume of information involved.

Investigators are asking those who may have been in the RecPlex locker room or have had a family member in the locker room to contact the Pleasant Prairie Police Department at 262-948-8910.
